Data for Black Lives co-hosts congressional briefing with the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Data & Society on Capitol Hill

We co-hosted a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill to educate members of Congress and staffers about the dangers of the over-reliance on algorithms. Our message resonated. Within a week, Senator Cory Booker released a press statement endorsing our demands of Facebook to establish a Public Data Trust, develop a Code of Ethics, and to hire more Black data scientists and researchers. And Facebook responded: we were asked to advise on their civil rights audit which we will be doing in addition to laying the groundwork for the Public Data Trust.
